From Cheemakurti, Bodawada, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, Southern India, Star Galaxy Granite is a fine to medium-grained, black granite (Gabbric Anorthosite) with sparkling yellow / silver reflectors suitable for granite worktops and tiles, wall cladding and prestigious architectural elements. The veining and colour varies and a small sample of Star Galaxy granite may not be representative of the whole slab therefore swatch samples must be approved for large projects to ensure that the blocks are all extracted from the same quarry face for matching purposes. During the polishing process a clear epoxy resin filler may be used to fill any micro fissures or tiny pitting however this does not affect the integrity of the stone, it merely provides an even smoother surface finish.
Star Galaxy Granite is eminiently suitable for interiors and exterior work having a constant polish and being frost resistant.
You will find an enormous range in prices for Star Galaxy Granite depending upon the size(s) you require together with a huge variation in quality standards and especially so when buying at an ultra low price. In general First Choice Quality large gangsaw slabs suitable for making large kitchen worktops and islands are up to 10X more expensive than small, mass-produced polished granite tiles.
The vast majority of Star Galaxy granite rough blocks extracted from the quarries are of small blocks suitable for mass produced or dimensioned flooring, paving etc, therefore the large blocks required to produce large dimensioned pieces command a much higher price. There is no such thing as low cost, high quality, large sized Star Galaxy granite and if offered such a product it would need thorough & rigorous examination by a qualified stone expert.
Petrographically they are similar stones. The Star Galaxy Granite quarry was the first "Galaxy" quarry to be opened in the very early 1980s, when more quarries opened in that region many adopted the name Black Galaxy Granite. Even though they are petrographically similar stones they do all vary especially with background colour, veining and Star flakes. It is not advisable to try and mix stones from different quarries.
1. Large grain (Popcorn)
2. Medium grain
3. Small grain
Most buyers prefer medium & small grain however some countries prefer the large grain. It's your choice!
Not all Star Galaxy granites have the same background colour, they can vary as follows:
1. Dark Black
2. Dark with a greenish/black tinge
3. Dark with a whiteish/black background
Do not try and mix Star Galaxy granites from different suppliers/quarries, since they will most probably not match in colour & most likely, polishing standards.
Within the stone industry the grading standards are accepted as follows:
1. Q1 - First Choice: Clean of any visible veining.
2. Q2 - Standard Quality: With one or two visible veins known as mergeable lines.
3. Q3 - Commercial Quality: With two, three or more visible veins known as mergeable lines.
These lines may be black or white, they do not affect the integrity of the material and generally are only visible from behind.
Note: Some dealers may try & complicate the above by including "inbetween" standards or Ebay Triple AAA, their standards do not exist in the stone trade!
Suitable for construction projects both commercial and domestic, prefabricated countertops/worktops, vanities, tiles, backsplashes, paving, fireplaces and memorials.
Star Galaxy Granite looks best with a gloss polished surface but is also available as honed, leather/satin, river-washed/antique, thermal/flamed, flamed & brushed, water-jet, bush-hammered, sandblast and sawn finish.
Test with a small sample. It is most unlikely that a sealant can be used on this granite due to the very tight grain formation, attempts at sealing it could actually create a residue film build-up.

There are approximately 50 Black Galaxy granite quarries and all vary in graining, flecking size and notably background colour. For projects do not mix Black Galaxy from different quarry sources since it will most likely be very obvious!
Star Galaxy granite is available in standard 20mm and 30mm thickness for random slabs, cut-to-size (dimensioned) and prefabricated to the customer's specifications, 40mm thick are produced but are not usually held in stock for immediate despatch.

Black Galaxy granite tiles. Premium & Commercial quality calibrated, bevelled & grooved matching granite.
Furthermore 305/400/457/610 mm x Freelength, normally up to 2000mm (78.75") for you to cut to length on site. Longer lengths can easily be produced HOWEVER this could possibly create an on-site handling and cutting production challenge.

A dark-coloured, coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock. Gabbro is very similar to basalt in its mineral make up. It is composed mostly of the mineral plagioclase feldspar with smaller amounts of pyroxene and olivine. Gabbros are found widely on the Earth and on the Moon as well.
A Precambrian, phaneritic, intrusive igneous rock characterized by a predominance of calcium-rich plagioclase feldspar (90-100%), and a minimal mafic component (0-10%). Pyroxene, ilmenite, magnetite, and olivine are the mafic minerals most commonly present. All anorthosites found on Earth consist of coarse crystals but some samples of the rock taken from the Moon are finely crystalline.
There are about 50 Black Galaxy granite quarries. Extraction at the original Star Galaxy granite quarry commenced in the very early 1980s. The quarries vary hugely in size and production levels, granite blocks suitable for gangsaw size down to economical tile-sized and monument blocks are usually readily available however for commercial projects it is important to ensure that blocks are selected from the same quarry face, we must repeat, DO NOT try and match-up with alternative Black Galaxy granite sources.
Rough blocks are usually exported by Break Bulk however intermodal containerisation is available at extra cost. Finished products are packed into sea-worthy wooden crates and loaded into containers.
